“You are born an original. Don’t Die a Copy.”- John Mason

How fitting is that statement with the new year coming soon!

Can you believe 2022 is almost over?!?! The Christmas Party at the Steam Plant was once again a raging success. So. Much. Fun. It is always fun to see everyone in the same room celebrating over food and drinks. I think we can all agree that we have the BEST. TEAM. EVER!!

December is National Volunteer Month and boy do we have opportunities for you. There are lots of places that can use help this time of year. Make it a family event, or even a team building manager outing. I can get you hooked up with the right people if you are interested. We have listed a few opportunities in this newsletter. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year. Kindness brings out the best in people (and it looks good on your face)! Pay if forward with time or money. I promise it will make your heart happy (and serve your mental health well)!!

Our manager insurance, United HealthCare, has awesome wellness opportunities! I want to introduce you to their Rally Coach Service – a healthy living App that can include a personal coach! Please see all the awesomeness (and a TON of freebies) associated with this FREE online healthy living program! United HealthCare also has a free iFitness and Peloton subscriptions (for 1 year), mental health counseling and help with smoking cessation. There has never been a better time to become the best version of yourself!

Strategic planning is almost one month away. What are you going to bring to the table? How can we make SFM the BEST McDonald’s franchise in the industry? It all starts with YOU! We can’t wait to hear your thoughts on January 23rd at Aileron.

Just a thought heading into 2023. Instead of coming up with a New Years Resolution to add something to  your plate this year like many of us do (losing weight, eating healthy, blah, blah), what if you took something off your plate to focus more on yourself? It’s okay to say “NO” to things. It was put in the English dictionary for a reason. Practice it with me… “NO.” We all want to help others but sometimes saying no to our already full plates is what we need to do. Think about it and let me know how you fare for the next newsletter due out in February 2023.

Get out and slay the day- YOU are WORTH IT!

Mike Donnely has been our amazing Maintenance Technician in Bellefontaine and he officially retired on November 18th! We asked him about his plans after retirement at his Farewell Party!

How long have you been working for SFM?

I’ve been with Scott Family McDonald’s for 5 years, but with McDonald’s for 13 years total. I’ve handled everything with general equipment maintenance to the POS and beyond.

What are your plans after retirement?

I’ve got plenty to do. I’ve got a little woodshop that I’m planning on working in more and I’m excited to get to know my grandchildren more. I’ve got one grandkid out of college already and actually have great-grandchildren now!

What are you going to miss most about SFM?

The excitement and the people. Really, I’ve enjoyed the people very much, especially the customers. You grow a connection and relationship with them.  I’ve had my coffee club pals that came in everyday and you just get used to people. I’m really going to miss that.
Nikki Taylor - Office Manager

Congratulations Mike!

We are grateful for your smiles and servant heart during your time at SFM. Now it’s your turn to bless others in retirement! You will be missed!

HAPPY RETIREMENT, DAVE!

After a whopping 51 years (37 with SFM), Dave is hanging up his spatula, KVS controllers & Kiosk upgrades!  In doing so, he is actually handing technology functions over to Sid, and skipping off to retirement.  As our Organizational Technology Lead for the past several years, Dave has hopped around from store to store to make sure everything technical is running smoothly and correctly. Way back before clamshell grills, Dave started as a crew person & then manager, working his way up to Supervisor and learning tons about running McDonald’s restaurants along the way.  He is surely going to be missed at SFM.  But we are also happy knowing that Dave will be sitting in the sunshine, by the shore in Pompano Beach, FL – drinking his cocktails and eating sushi while cheering on the Florida Gators and Miami Dolphins!

Enjoy your retirement, Dave! And thanks for all the years of service!

Personal Development

If you have seen a doctor and wanted to get a second opinion about a diagnosis, the book Lies My Doctor Told Me by Dr. Ken Berry will affirm those suspicions. This book “will help you sort through medical myths, and downright lies that well-meaning doctors tell you” (www.goodreads.com).

Dr. Berry tackles the most prevalent medical and health myths of the last 50 years, including why low-salt diets do little (if anything) for high blood pressure, strokes, and heart disease. And why you have no reason to fear saturated fat, dietary cholesterol, red meat, processed meat, or grilling meat. Is milk good for you? The dangers and benefits of hormone therapy. And did you know beefing up your workouts may sabotage your weight loss goals? Or that sun exposure doesn’t correlate with skin cancer risks, and diet may be more effective than sunscreen? You’ll learn the science behind these exposed “lies” and a lot more.

If you want to learn more about bettering your health, diet and your relationship with your doctor, you owe it to yourself (and your family) to read this book!

Benefits of Winter Walking

I know we are knees deep in the cold weather by now… and the temperatures are going to continue to drop over the next few weeks. As much as we would LOVE to grab our sweatpants, slippers and a warm, fuzzy blanket and cuddle up on the couch with a movie or book rather then get up and move your booty….. we can’t toss those workouts out the window! Personally, I would rather hop on the treadmill in the cold months rather than walk outside.. but there are SO MANY benefits to bundling up and heading out for a walk – just don’t forget your gloves and a hat!

Calorie Burner

Winter walks are the best calorie burners! It is also good for your heart as the heart has to pump faster to get the blood flowing – thus keeping your body temperature in check as well!

Stress Reliever

The invigorating cold air helps to clear your mind and reduce stress. A winter walk is beneficial for your mental health as the cold air releases endorphins to boost your mood.

Vitamin D

A brisk winter walk is also a great way to soak in all the vitamin D that the body needs for strong and healthy bones.

Cognitive Benefits

Walking, in general, helps to improve the ability to retain memory in old age.

Benefits you’re missing out on!
