I hope you are enjoying the warm and snowy days of February. We are definitely receiving the best of both worlds. Spring is right around the corner, and longer days are ahead. Sunshine is hopefully going to be here to stay real soon!

February is National Heart Month. This reminds me to take advantage of those free wellness checkups that many insurances cover with zero out of pocket cost. Take advantage of those preventative measures to take control of your health! Let’s be proactive together! There are so many things we can do outside of the doctor’s office to keep your heart ticking for a very long time. Go for a walk. Read a book. Meditate and/or pray. Manage stress. If you don’t know how to do that, I can help with outside resources. We genuinely care about you and your health. This leads me to a helpful resource: 2-1-1. Consider this the 9-1-1 for social services. Locally, it can help with all governmental and community-based resources. All calls are confidential and can be anonymous.

February is also Black History Month. We will be celebrating a young man from Paris High School in Kentucky, Jaiden Holman for his contributions in the classroom and community. Stay tuned for pictures!

“Habits” is an over-riding theme here in SFM for 2024. We all have habits, good or bad, that define who we are and what we do. The book, “Atomic Habits” by James Clear was featured in a previous edition of the newsletter. It’s definitely worth the read (or listen on Audible). How much better could we be with our drive thru times, travel paths and customer service in our restaurants if we made establishing good, purposeful habits a priority. You will hear Ken and others refer to this book throughout the year, so do yourself a favor: READ IT!

As always, if there is anything you want to see, or ideas you have in regard to the newsletter, please let us know! We do this for you and need your input!

Get out and slay the day- YOU are WORTH IT!

Exercise at Home

Are you looking for a low-impact workout to try as the weather warms up? Something that won’t kill your muscles and joints while getting you into shape at the same time?

Look no further! Give Wall Pilates a try! Wall Pilates involves performing traditional Pilates exercises with the support of a wall. This workout is proven to transform your body if you can stick with it! The best part about it is you can do it right at your house! All you need is a wall and a mat!

Wall Pilates can be catered to the type of results you want to see within your body. Whether you want to build muscle, lose weight or improve your flexibility, there is a version that will be perfect for you! There are so many benefits about this exercise that might peak your interest. Not only can it improve your spinal alignment, it can also give you relief from chronic back pain and decrease the risk of injuries.

Just like any form of exercise, Wall Pilates is known to be a great form of stress relief and it can boost your immune system, improve your digestion, give you better flexability and help you sleep better at night.

There are so many other great benefits of this simple workout that I don’t even have listed here. The bottom line is that Wall Pilates is a great way to improve your overall health and well-being. The exercises are low-impact and can be adapted to different fitness levels.

How to get started? It’s easy! There are a TON of free videos all over YouTube. You can also download an App called BetterMe that specializes in Wall Pilates. There is a subscription cost to this app ($15 a month) after a free trial, but it will create a workout just for you and your goals!

Let’s take a minute to get to know Farron, a Supervisor in Kentucky and his
lovely wife Maria, the Payroll Manager down south!

How and when did you two meet?

“We met at McDonald’s in Georgetown Pilot 21 years ago.” Farron says, “the first time I met Maria, I knew she needed someone to take care of her and so that is what I did!” They got married after dating for just 3 months!

What are some qualities that you love about each other?

Maria loves Farron’s preserverence – in fact, that is one thing that drew her to him. “He asked me out everyday for 3 months!” She describes Farron as being committed and their relationship as unbreakable. Farron thinks that his wife is angelic. How sweet!

What has been your favorite Valentine’s Gift to each other?

“Time spent together is the best gift we could ever get!” Both Maria and Farron agree. However, Maria does enjoy to get some chocolates every once in a while!

Beth Garber - Supervisor

If you haven’t heard Ken talk about the book Atomic Habits by James Clear, then you must be new here. Ken SWEARS by this book and has gotten much of the SFM Leadership Team onboard as well. In this book, James Clear distils the most fundamental information about habit formation, so you can accomplish more by focusing on less. And now to help you achieve this act of creating habits, we give you The Clear Habit Journal.

The Clear Habit Journal is a combination dot grid notebook, daily journal, and habit tracker. Designed to give you everything you need and nothing that you don’t. It is equipped with a One Line Per Day section that makes it easy to build a daily journaling habit, a habit tracker template that is perforated and can easily be torn out and hung on the fridge, placed on your desk, or anywhere else you choose, a Quick Start Guide that explains how to use the various sections of the journal, Habit Toolkits that offer in-depth examples and layouts to help you be more productive & make better decisions, and 168 dot grid pages.

This journal will keep you on track and give you the structure in your day-to-day life that you didn’t even know you needed. If you are interested in getting one for yourself, reach out to your supervisor and ask for one! We love to help you achieve both your personal and professional goals!

Amber Girard is a First Assistant Manager at the Paris Store in Kentucky and she is also a recreational scuba diver! She is certified for Open Water Diving, Deep Water Diving and Nitrox – and just 2 certifications away from being a Dive Master! HOW COOL!

Scuba Diving was always something that Amber wanted to try, so her mom gifted her a certification for Christmas in 2020 and she fell in love with it. Her mom got certified the following  February and now they can dive together!

Amber’s favorite location to dive is at the Devils Den in Florida. She has dove to the depth of 109ft down – being her deepest so far! The longest she has been underwater at one time is 66 whole minutes. Could you even imagine?!

Eventually, Amber wants to retire on a beach somewhere and teach Scuba Diving classes.

Send us the cool things you do outside of work to be featured in our next newsletter!

Don’t Settle For Less

Take Care of yourself & your health

We are in the process of updating our website to include a resource line for all employees. There are so many resources out there that are designed to help you – no matter how you need it! Please start talking this up with your employees. These are available for everyone, and best of all they’re FREE!

988 Hotline

Modeled after 911, the new three-digit 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is designed to be a memorable and quick number that connects people who are suicidal or in any other mental health crisis to a trained mental health professional. You can call or text the number anytime – and it’s completely free.

211 Hotline

The 211 Hotline is a resource that connects all human services to residents in all Ohio counties. It is open and available 24/7/365. Funded by the United Way, most calls or messages are from people looking for help meeting basic needs like housing, food, transportation, and health care. Since Benny and Stacy are huge advocates for the United Way (they match dollar for dollar all donations given) I cannot think of a better way to promote this resource!

BrightView

BrightView offers patients a chance to recover in a place where they are welcomed, encouraged, and respected. We believe anyone can achieve the goal of life-long recovery with the help of our outpatient addiction treatment programs. BrightView offers a better approach to addiction treatment, designed to fit your life.
